SELECTING A LIGHT Selecting a light requires an understanding of how you will use it and identifying what activity or project is to be accomplished. Listed below are questions that will help determine your needs. LAMPS: -
Is the light for you or someone else?
- Do you want to improve your task lighting or your overhead lighting?
- Where do you wish to use your lamp...by the sewing machine, by a couch or chair, by a work bench, by a desk, etc.?
- Do you want to replace a lamp or do you have a lamp and just need to replace the bulb with a Total Spectrum bulb?
- If you are replacing or needing an additional lamp, do you want a clamp
on lamp, a desk lamp, a floor lamp or a lamp that can be used as a combination clamp, desk or floor lamp?
- Does the light need to be flexible?
- Does the light need to be able to extend 20 - 30 inches?
- Do you want to travel with the lamp? Does it need to fit in a suitcase?
- How much light do you want? Are you eyes sensitive to light or do you feel like you want more light?
-
Do you need accessories such as a floor stand , desk base or clamp to provide more flexibility to an existing lamp?

| | | | | | SELECTING A LIGHT BULBS: - What wattage of bulbs do you use currently?
- How many bulbs do you want to replace?
- Do you want more light or less light?
- Is there any
dimmer switch on the lighting fixture? - Does you current lamp use a regular incandescent bulb or a halogen bulb? What is the type of screw-in base of the existing bulb?
- If the bulbs are in recessed ceiling fixtures, is the interior of the fixture silver, white or black? If it is black, a
reflector will be need for the bulb. - How high is the ceiling if the lights are anchored to or in the ceiling?
- If the ceiling is higher than the average 8 ft., more light may need to be emitted from the bulb to reach the sitting or table areas.
- Is the bulb located by the thermostat? If it is, the heat from the existing incandescent or halogen bulb is probably fooling the
thermostat by making it register a higher room temperature than actually exists. During the summer or warmer months, this can make the air conditioner run more than necessary which can increase energy costs. During the winter months, the furnace may not heat the room properly because the thermostat thinks it is warmer than it actually is. A Total Spectrum bulb will help with this dilemma because it produces less heat than incandescent and halogen bulbs.
- Do you want to
calculate how much electricity and dollars that would be saved by using energy efficient Total Spectrum bulbs?

| | | | MEASURING FOR A LIGHT Bulbs The measurements listed for our bulbs identify the diameter and length. The length is measured from the bottom tip of the
screw-in part to the top tip of the glass section. If the bulb is used sideways in a lamp, the screw-in part needs to be considered when inserting the bulb into the lamp. A banker style lamp is an example where the bulb is placed sideways into the socket.
